Lisbon

"Lisbon has become one of the most exciting destinations in Europe for golfers".

The area can be split into three distinct regions. To the north of Lisbon, close to the historical town of Obidos, is the spectacular Praia del Rey resort, voted European Golf Resort of the year in 2007, by the Association of Golf Tour Operators.

To the west are the sophisticated towns of Estoril and Cascais. This area offers the best shopping and night-life with a great variety of restaurants, bars and clubs. Lisbon city centre can easily be reached from here by train.

A taste of real Portugal can be found in the south in the region known as the Costa Azul and the towns of Costa da Caparica and Sesimbra. Caparica sits just south of the River Tagus, giving the best location to access Lisbon city centre and play a mixture of courses in all three regions. Sesimbra lies a little further south and is a charming fishing village with a good selection of bars and restaurants. 

The pick of the courses in the Lisbon region are Praia del Rey and Golden Eagle to the north, Oitavos and Penha Longa to the west and Quinta do Peru, Troia and Aroeira’s two courses to the south. It’s fair to say there are very few poor courses in the Lisbon region and green fees are generally much better value than many other regions of Europe.

AM’s Opinion
Having hosted numerous Pro-Am’s in the Lisbon region we are big fans of this area. There’s at least ten top courses, some great night-life, and the Portuguese make you really welcome.
