In 2009 Oitavos was ranked by Golf Magazine, an American publication, as the 88th best course in the world. It was the only course in Portugal to be ranked and only one of three in Continental Europe in the top 100.

Designed by Arthur Hills it’s stunningly scenic and is set amongst a pine forest and dunes with some lovely views of the coast and mountains. A cross between a heath land and links course it’s hosted the Portuguese Open on four occasions and as you would expect is pretty tough. However, it plays a lot easier of the forward tees, and generally the fairways are quite wide. It’s the subtle hollows that surround many of the greens that makes scoring so difficult.

Location

The Oitavos Dunes course is situated 36 km to the west of Lisbon airport, a driving time of approximately 35 minutes (outside of the rush hour).
