Description
VICTORIA (Images 1 & 2)
18 Holes, Par 72
Championship Tees = 6609 metres
The Oceanico Victoria is the most prestigious of the Vilamoura courses and opened in 2004.
Designed by Arnold Palmer its Vilamoura’s premier course and has hosted the PGA World Cup in 2005 and the Portugal Masters from 2007 – 2009. Built on a flat piece of land, vast mounds and massive lakes were constructed to shape the course. At 6609 metres from the back tees it’s the longest course in Portugal, but five tee positions on each hole make it playable for a wide range of abilities.
OLD COURSE (Images 3 & 4)
18 Holes, Par 73
Championship Tees = 6254 metres
Designed by Frank Pennick, the Old Course is one of Portugal’s premier courses. A parkland layout, it meanders over gently undulating terrain and through avenues of umbrella pine trees. The par fours are particularly tough on this course, watch out for the 8th and 18th.
MILLENNIUM (Image 5)
18 Holes, Par 72
Championship Tees = 6176 metres
The Millennium course is generally more open than most of the courses in Vilamoura, with the exception of the Laguna course. However, five holes on the Millennium, from the third to the seventh, are played through an area of pine forest. The remaining holes have large contoured fairways similar to many Florida style courses.
PINHAL (Images 6 & 7)
18 Holes, Par 72
Championship Tees = 6353 metres
The Pinhal course was the second course to be built in Vilamoura and the second to be designed by Frank Pennick. It has some similarities to the Old Course in that it is also played over rolling terrain covered by umbrella pines, however it plays a little easier as there’s generally more room off the tees.
LAGUNA (Image 8)
18 Holes, Par 72
Championship Tees = 6121 metres
Designed by the American architect Joseph Lee, the Laguna course has a lot of similarities with the courses in Florida. The large, wide contoured fairways are a feature of the course, with water hazards coming into play on at least eleven holes. The Laguna’s exposed position means that players frequently have to contend with a stiff breeze, which adds to the difficulty.
