LOS NARANJOS (Images 1 & 2)
18 Holes, Par 72
The Los Naranjos course is situated just to the north of Puerto Banus. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Snr., it’s a course of two contrasting nine hole layouts. The front nine is more undulating and generally tighter, where as the back nine is flatter and more open. There are some really good holes and none more so than the par five 18th , where you have to clear a stream to reach the narrow green that sits just in front of the clubhouse terrace. Los Naranjos is one of the most popular courses in this region.
SANTA MARIA (Images 3 & 4)
18 Holes, Par 70
The Santa Maria courses runs through two narrow valleys to the north east of Marbella. The opening hole is a straightforward par 4, indeed the front nine is not too demanding and requires more accuracy than length. However, the back nine is a little more open giving more opportunities to use the driver off the tee. It’s a tidy course with some nice features and a strong British membership who always make visitors welcome
LA QUINTA (Image 5)
27Holes, Par 70 & 71
La Quinta consists of three nine hole courses known as A,B & C. The course is situated just to the north of Puerto Banus on an undulating, narrow piece of land that winds its way through the hills. The longest combination is only 6500 yards, short by modern day standards, however all three courses provide a good test and straight hitting is essential.
RIO REAL (Image 6)
18 Holes, Par 72
Rio Real is one of the oldest courses on the Costa Del Sol having opened in 1965. Its location, just to the east of Marbella, is one of the closest to the town centre, it’s also one of the flattest courses on the coast. The opening holes are fairly tight and run down to the beach, the 4th and 5th provide the best views of the sea. The back nine is a little more demanding and hillier with a number of elevated tees. This is one of the best courses in the Marbella area with a very pleasant clubhouse.
MARBELLA GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB (Images 7)
18 Holes, Par 70
The Marbella Golf & Country Club is situated 5 km to the east of Marbella and should not be confused with the Marbella Resort course which is located on the other side of the town. The course is not particularly long at 6600 yards off the back tees but it’s a really tricky course with a number of blind holes. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Snr, the pick of the holes are the 6th, a tricky par five with a lake guarding the front of the green, and 12th a long par four. The club has an excellent clubhouse, one of the largest in the region.
SANTA CLARA (Images 8)
18 Holes, Par 71
Santa Clara is situated next door to the Marbella Golf & Country Club to the east of Marbella. The course is very enjoyable and has some really good holes. It also has a few holes that test the nerves, none more so than 18th where a lake guards the rear of the green just inches from the putting surface! A feature of the courses is ‘Santa Clara Corner’ a tough three hole loop consisting of a par 3, 4 and 5. The club has a very impressive clubhouse and an excellent practice ground.
