Description

The Ritz-Carlton Abama Golf & Spa Resort is a large private estate, (known in Spanish as a ‘finca’) at 160 hectare, its tucked away in Guía de Isora, a tranquil and little know area on Tenerife’s sunny south west coast, approximately 25-30 minute drive to Costa Adeje/Playa de Las Americas or a 10 minute to Playa de San Juan, one of the few remaining fishing villages in Tenerife, where you can experience a bit of typical Canarian living. The hotel is set on the smooth slopes of Mount Teide, the highest peak in Spain and has panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean and the Island of La Gomera, the resort runs all the way down to the ocean and to its beach.

The resort consists of 469 guest rooms and suites, divided between the main complex, Citadel (321) and exclusive Villas (148), most of which enjoy magnificent views over the Atlantic, golf course and gardens. Abama has a volcanic landscape and tropical vegetation with over 300 varieties of plants, trees and palm trees.

The overall design of the resort is modern architecture merging with north African and ancient Chinese influences. Abama is unique: a magic citadel of interconnected Moorish buildings whose burnt terracotta colours seem to shift and change with every hour of the day. Even though is it large resort, you will always find spaces of calm and seclusion even in the busiest parts of the hotel, and secret gardens, delightful pools and breathtaking vistas around every corner. No matter how long you stay, there’s always more to explore.

AM’s Opinion

The original concept of Abama was to design a resort that would rival the most prestigious in the Caribbean and allow customers from Europe the opportunity to enjoy a luxurious resort with a warm winter climate that was within four to five flying hours of most European cities – well we think they achieved it. Abama really is an impressive resort, in a stunning location with an excellent golf course, it’s hard to find anywhere in Europe that compares with Abama.

Abama 469 guest rooms and suites are divided between the Complex (321) and the exclusive Villas (148), most of which enjoy magnificent views over the Atlantic, golf course and beautiful gardens. The Complex at the hotel combines ethnic architecture with a Moorish feel in almost all of its many guest rooms and suites.

Citadel Accommodation - is ideally situated between Abama's beach and its golf course, both within strolling distance, or reachable in two minutes by a chauffeur-driven buggy. The citadel offers a choice of deluxe rooms or two categories of suites. The rooms' interior design makes use of the local materials such as Canary Island pine, and each comes equipped with a king-size bed or twin beds, a spacious fitted oak wardrobe with coat and shoe racks and a chest of drawers. The marble bathrooms have a shower and a bath and complimentary Asprey bath products. The room's private terrace, oversees the Atlantic and La Gomera Island in the horizon.
